Program Facilitator
(Full time, term position, possible permanent position)

The First Nation Healing Centre is presently seeking a Program Facilitator.  The Program Facilitator will play an integral role within the organization by facilitating the Rekindling My Spirit Journey Program which is 4-week residential program offered to clients throughout the year. The Program Facilitator will create a space for participants to learn, heal and grow. The curriculum is centered on wellness, family violence and domestic abuse, Indigenous history, and intergenerational trauma, and ideally integrates culture and land-based healing activities throughout the service delivery. The facilitator should have the ability to establish relationships with the women and children we work with, listening, sharing, and supporting those in the program and living in the shelter.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop an annual workplan and monthly program schedule
  • Make posters, notices, pamphlets to reach clientele, send our referral packages
  • Familiarize with existing curriculum and research and implement additional relevant curriculum
  • Conduct intake of clients enrolled in the program
  • Assist with coordinating travel arrangements for out-of-town clients
  • Orientating residents on the program and in-house rules
  • Collect all data, stats, crisis calls, incidents, program accomplishments on the WISH database
  • Program delivery and facilitating for program clients and shelter residents (women and children)
  • Utilize various teaching techniques, visuals, story telling, teachings, lessons, activities, guest speakers and hands on activities
  • Ability to incorporate land-based approaches (ex. medicine picking)
  • Host graduation of the program participants & program updates to client workers such as, CFS workers and lawyers
  • Conducting one-to-one mentorship sessions with residents and program participants.

Administration

  • Ensure efficient communication on behalf of the centre: correspondence, phone calls, fax, emails and logging
  • Reads daily log entries, ability to maintain good log records, update program notes to WISH database
  • Complete incident reports, monthly reports, workplan, budget finance expenses of program

Qualifications

  • Preferably post secondary degree in social sciences or counseling. Will consider combination of teaching experience.
  • Grade 12 Highschool Diploma
  • Awareness and understanding of issues pertaining to family violence and domestic abuse
  • To have good computer skills, word, excel, PowerPoint
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality and working in an area that deals with sensitive information daily
  • Good communication skills and that ability to handle difficult conversations
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have good conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work under stressful situation and dealing with crisis
  • Must submit a criminal record check, child abuse registry check and drug testing (as per the FRCN By-Law 2004-01, sec. 8.01)
  • To work in an environment that must be welcoming, supportive and secure those who seek shelter and healing
