Program Chef (1year term)
First Nation Healing Centre is a non-profit organization which is currently seeking an Program Chef. The Program Chef will oversee meal planning, preparation, and delivery, ensuring nutritious and appealing meals are served to program participants and residents of the First Nation Healing Centre. This role includes managing the kitchen, supervising kitchen support staff or volunteers, and maintaining compliance with food safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a rotating menu tailored to the needs and preferences of program participants and residents of the FNHC.
- Purchase, inventory, and manage food supplies within budget guidelines.
- Prepare high-quality meals while adhering to dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Train, supervise, and support kitchen staff or volunteers.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen in compliance with food safety regulations.
- Engage participants through culinary education or cooking workshops if applicable.
- Collaborate with program staff to align food services with program goals and requirements.
- Encourage and teach mothers in meal planning and snack preparation for their children
- Grocery shopping and ensuring fridge, freezers and pantry well stocked
- Traveling to Winnipeg to do bulk shopping
- Fiscally responsible, able to book keep receipts and provide a report of expenditures in the kitchen
- To work with food from the garden, practise recycling and cooking wild meat/fish, and canning
Qualifications:
- High School diploma, or GED; plus, proven experience as a chef or cook, preferably in a similar setting.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills. Reliable and punctual.
- To stand long hours, cooking in the kitchen
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-site at events.
- Valid Drivers License,
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team,
- Must be aware of the impact and effects of abuse on the lives of woman and children.
- Must submit a criminal record check child abuse registry check, and drug test (as per the FRCN By-Law 2004-01, Sec. 8.01);
